Rare White Whale Calf Spotted

A white humpback whale calf was seen swimming near its mother along the NSW coast. It’s the first recorded sighting of an albino whale in Australian waters since 2020. The last known sighting of an albino whale in Australia was in 2020—Migaloo, a famous pure white adult male humpback first seen in 1991 off Queensland. Rarity of Albinism. Albinism in humpback whales is exceptionally rare, possibly affecting fewer than 1 in 10,000. Some whales may have leucism instead, a similar condition that also results in pale coloring but is genetically distinct.
