2025, April 27. Western Australia. Meteors. Detected on camera within hour of each other. The event parameters at Albany were. LLB: (-35.48, 118.29). LLE: (-34.62, 117.41). HB: 120.5 km, HE: 102.3 km. Duration: 1.92 sec. Vel: 67.16 km/s. Travelling NW for 124 km.  

2025, April 30. Western Australia. Meteor. Detected on camera at a long distance.

2025, May 1. Queensland, K'gari (Frazer Island). Juvenile Brydes Whale stranded. Outcome unknown.

2025, May 4. Philippines, Brgy. Minabel, Camiguin Norte. A large dead whale, species not known.

2025, May 4. Iceland. Two dolphins in an advanced state of decomposition.

2025, May 4. India, Mumbai, Juhu beach. A rare occurrence of a dead pink dolphin.

2025, May 4. Wales, Pwll Llanddu. Dead common dolphin.  

2025, May 5. Bangladesh, The Rupnarayan River, village of Mankur in Bagnan 1 Block at the end of Howrah district. An adult Gangetic dolphin was recovered from the riverbank.  

2025, May 5. New South Wales, Manly. Risso’s Dolphin calf. the calf had sustained minor predation wounds and was euthanised.

2025, May 5. South Australia, Henley Beach. Dead Great White Shark (Total of four dead individuals). The incident follows the discovery of dead sharks at Ardrossan, Aldinga and Port Willunga in recent weeks. Experts are concerned it could be connected to the algae bloom.

2025, May 5. Western Australia, House Beach, 12km east of Bremer Bay. A mass stranding of seven false killer whales. Four died initially with three refloated. One restranded and euthanised. These cetaceans could be individuals separated from the large pod stranding of FKW in Tasmania on February 19.

Mass whale stranding in Belize

2025, April 22. Belize. Location is between Stank Bank and Drowned Cayes Area, or to a greater extent between Belize City and Turneffe Atoll. A mass whale stranding of 30 false killer whales. This area has seen pilot whales mass strand before, and this is the third time FKW have stranded in these shallow seas. The Belize Fisheries Department coordinated with the Clearwater Marine Aquarium Research Institute.

Update: April 25. All individuals found deeper water and have ventured away from danger.

Bookend airbursts are common occurrences in mass whale strandings

2013, February 20. South Atlantic. Airburst. Coordinates: (23S, 38.8W). Energy: 100,000 kg/TNT.  This was 450km east of the stranding in Brazil.

2013, September 22. Brazil, Upanema beach, Areia Branca, Rio Grande do Norte State (RN; 04°55'34,1"; 37°06'50.1"). A mass stranding of 30 False killer whales. 24 were alive when located and refloated, but later another two died, bringing the total to 8 dead. One of these was debated as being related to the pod.

2013, October 12. South Atlantic. Major Airburst. Coordinates: (19.1S, 25W). Energy: 3,500,000 kg/TNT. This airburst was 20 days after Brazil whale stranding.  

The 1946 mass False Killer whale stranding in Argentina

1946, October 6-10. Meteor Shower (1946 Outburst). The Draconid meteor shower, originating from Comet 21P/Giacobini-Zinner, peaked on October 9, 1946. This event was particularly remarkable, with observers reporting meteor rates ranging from 3,000 to 10,000 per hour. Despite a full moon that night, the shower's intensity made it visible across various regions, including South America. A fishing vessel captain off the coast of Uraguay stated that “the stars were overflowing”.

1946, October 9. Argentina, Provincia de Buenos Aires, Playa Bristol in Mar del Plata. A mass stranding of 835 false killer whales (Pseudorca crassidens). There were reports that the super pod consisted of over 1200 individuals. The largest known stranding of this species to date.

Mass whale stranding of 157 false killer whales on a beach in Tasmania's far north-west. At the moment 90 are still alive. More to come. Update: 2025, February 19, Time:19:14. Tasmania, Arthur River. A mass stranding of 157 false killer whales stranded on a beach in Tasmania's far north-west and died. A total of ninety were alive when found and were euthanized.

2013 South Africa Incident - The airburst and 20 False Killer whales

2013, March 12. South Africa. South Atlantic Ocean. 70 km west of Paternoster South Africa. Coordinates: ( -32.7, 17.1). Time: 10:32. e = 2.9, -e = 0.1 or equivalent to 100,000 kg/TNT. Altitude was 26 km which was at the lower end of the scale. Velocity is unknown.

2013, March 13. South Africa, Cape Town, Noordhoek Beach. 20 False Killer whales were stranded on the beach with only three known to survive.  Interesting note – Between 1880 and 1885 a mass stranding of killer whales took place in South Africa at Muizenberg Beach in False Bay (only 10km away over the headland). There were 7 specimens photographed but there could be more. It is the first known image of a whale stranding.

2013 Airburst incidents from January 1st to April 1st.

A Dead Dolphin in the USA and a Mass Fish Kill in New Zealand.

Two incidents to write about. The first is a dolphin stranded in New Jersey in the USA. It washed up with blood coming from its eyes and jaw. I've placed a map up of where a meteor came in over the water. The upper N.E USA has seen some spectacular activity lately with one meteoroid seen in over 15 states on the 21st. It's worth considering at least.

The second incident is in the Hauraki Gulf in New Zealand. A mass fish kill has been blamed on a fishing trawler mishap, however here also the meteoroid activity has been very active. I thought there could be a stranding in this area, a follow-up from a meteor push, after the last prevented stranding below on February 12 of 35 to 40 false killer whales. The cross at the bottom is where numerous strandings have occurred since last October. It could just be a coincidence, but worth keeping a watch for any information in the future. See the February 12th post.

Mass Whale Strandings in New Zealand with NASA Bolides

The NASA Bolides and the mass whale strandings so far in New Zealand this year. The four yellow crosses indicate the strandings, including the near disaster that locals prevented on February12. 

2024, January 8. New Zealand, Between South and North Island. High Altitude Meteor. Time 15:17. Traveling east to west at 100 km travelling prograde at 57km/s.

2024, January 9 and 10. New Zealand. Two Gray’s beaked whales were stranded on two separate beaches near South Taranaki on Tuesday and Wednesday. The whales were already dead when located on Waipipi coastline and were between 3.5 and 4m in length. This came between 24 and 48 hours after the above meteor event.

2024, January 17, NASA BOLIDE. New Zealand. (-38.5, 178.9).

2024, January 18, NASA BOLIDE. New Zealand/Southern Ocean. (-45.5, -178.7).

2024, January 21. New Zealand, North Island-East Coast, Hawke's Bay, reef near Māhia, Tairāwhiti beach, Taylor’s Beach. 40 false killer whales and bottlenose dolphins were euthanized. The pod first stranded early in the afternoon but refloated with the high tide at about 3pm. They restranded at a remote and inaccessible reef point further south of Taylor’s Beach.

2024, January 21. New Zealand, North Island. Time 9:12pm. The fireball was seen in Auckland, Waikato, Gisborne, Waipawa and Hawke’s Bay, the same day 40 false killer whales were stranded in the area. A loud sonic boom was heard as it flew overhead, travelling from N.W. to S.E. It was described as a low travelling large ball of fire.

2024, January 23, NASA BOLIDE. New Zealand. (-38.9, 174.1).

2024. January 29 - 30. New Zealand, Baylys Beach, West coast North Island. 3 Black Dolphins. The first one washed up from a pod offshore of approx. 10 - 12 individuals. The second was 2km further up the beach and was 3m long. The third washed up the next day. Baylys Beach is a small section of Ripiro Beach, which is the longest west coast beach in New Zealand. It’s located in the Kaipara district near Dargaville. PCTE

2024, January 31. New Zealand, Auckland and Northland Time 08:14 UT. Entered earth's atmosphere over the Pacific Ocean North of the North Island.

2024, February 1, NASA BOLIDE. New Zealand/Southern Ocean. (-48.2, -173.8).

2024, February. New Zealand. Heavy meteoroid shower activity.

2024, February 12. New Zealand, East coast, North Island, East Cape beach of Taylor's Bay. A pod of 35-40 false killer whales and bottlenose dolphins have been refloated and driven back to sea in a strong and coordinated effort by locals after stranding in the afternoon.

Update on New Zealand stranding on the 12th of February.

Update on the pod of false killer whales and bottlenose dolphins and their attempted stranding yesterday. I know the maps are messy however, it's important to note this. The meteors have been strong to the south driving any whales located near the coast towards the north. If the whales keep travelling in this direction, they will try to beach again because of the continued stream entering the air space. I doubt they will go south because they have been "pushed" towards the coast. 

Even if the pod does not re-strand it's important to note that other pods are in danger of doing the same.
