Fourth fireball reported in New Zealand in as many days

2026, July 30. New Zealand, North Island, East Coast of Northland. Fireball. Time: 07:45:03. Duration: 4secs. Travelling SW north of Great Barrier Island.

Update: 20260805. The MAD issued in the post below for the July 28th meteor has been downgraded to a watch due to new trajectory components showing the meteor exploded over land. Meteorites have been recovered. The sonic boom was contained within landfall regions, and the one report from the South Island was false; therefore, Cook Strait was not affected by a marine disturbance.

Meteor Airburst over South Pacific Ocean

2025, December 16. South Pacific Ocean, between Isla de Pascua (Easter Island) and Chile. Airburst. Time: 20:58:12. Coordinates: (24.1S, 92.4W). Altitude: 25.0km. Energy: 9.6e10, or 290,000 kg/TNT. This is the 31st airburst of 2025.

Also watching two events. One in the North Sea on the 13th and the other in Western Australia on the 12th.

Fireball in New South Wales, Australia

2025, June 1. Australia, New South Wales, Sydney. Fireball. Time: 17.56. Vision of the event shows a bright green glow passing over the sky. Entered the atmosphere just south of Newcastle. Delayed and concurrent sound heard. It was seen from as far south as Blackbutt, south of Woolongong, to Werris Creek in the north 360 km apart. The image below was taken Narrabeen Beach looking north, traveling east to west from the South Pacific Ocean. Duration: 6 seconds. 

Note: I’m awaiting further information before issuing a Marine Animal Disturbance alert for this event. Given the migratory patterns at this time of year, it would be prudent to remain vigilant for any signs of distress in cetaceans.
