Fireballs reported in Florida, Newport in California, Hawaii, UK and Bay of Biscay. Cetaceans ashore in the Shetlands, UK (Sowerby’s beaked whale), California, Iceland, Alaska (pregnant Cuvier's beaked whale), Oregon, Honolulu (Blainville’s beaked whale), Canada, Vietnam, and Japan.
Asteroid: (2026 LS1). Diameter: 14 m - 32 m. Flyby: 2026, Jun 13. Close Approach Time: 06:48 ± < 00:01. Velocity (VRE): 8.34km/s. Drop Line: 2 hours.
A number of bright fireballs seen from the 14th of November to 25th over water in UK/Ireland and Scotland region.
Also: Puerto Rico has seen two large fireballs recently, one creating a daylight sonic boom.
November 16. Puerto Rico, over Cabo Rojo. A fireball was spotted streaking across the sky.
November 23. Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands. A very bright daylight fireball was observed across the skies as it disintegrated, producing a sonic boom.
I'm still watching Florida and The Bahamas for stranding activity after the Nov 11th airburst. The meteor exploded at 40+km height, 240,000 TNT/kg energy release, so this could still drive a mass stranding in future weeks.
New Zealand has continued to have fireball activity. Australia: Tasmania has been quiet, while Victoria has had some activity, but nothing out of the ordinary. Strandings in both countries have been single events.

This event is unlikely to have caused the displacement or stranding of cetaceans; however, a MAD (Marine Animal Disturbance) “watch” should still be noted for the region. Although the meteor remained at high altitude and disintegrated—similar to the “Portugal” incident—such occurrences generally appear to be non-events with respect to cetacean strandings. At present, I am unable to establish any definitive acoustic parameters associated with the event, though it is highly improbable that it produced audible signals detectable at the surface. The primary uncertainty stems from the difficulty in isolating and removing very low frequency (VLF) radio waves from the analysis. Nevertheless, incidents of this kind contribute incremental data to the developing meteor–cetacean stranding catalogue, and each documented case improves our understanding of potential correlations. 2025, September 25. Crete, Mediterranean Sea, South Cretan Sea, municipalities of Viannos and Ierapetra, coast of Keratokampos. Report: ARION confirmed a mass stranding of Cuvier’s beaked whales (Ziphius cavirostris) on the coasts of southeastern Crete. Four whales were found: three already dead, and one alive that later did not survive. Update: See below the meteor/fireball on the 13th.
2025, September 13. Mediterranean Sea, between Libya and Sicilia, Malta region. District. Fireball. Time: 22:45 UT or 00:45 EET. Duration: 3.5s. Seen in Italy - Calabria, and Sicilia Libya - Misrata District. Seen in locations 750km apart. Travelling NE.
Also: 2025, September 22. UK, Cumbrian coast on the Irish Sea, near Silloth. A mass stranding involving four common dolphins – two adults, a juvenile, and a calf. One adult and a calf died next to each other, but the other adult and a juvenile were kept alive by volunteers until the tide came in and refloated.

2025, August 10 (Could have been dead for some days to a week). Scotland, Orkney, Whitemill Bay. A mass stranding of twenty three long-finned pilot whales, some of them young calves, have been discovered on the shoreline in Sanday. One of the whales was a pregnant female. See July 3rd fireball that created sonic boom.

2025, August 10. Sweden, Åsa in Kungsbacka. Two Sowerbys stranded. They were refloated; however, the younger one restranded and died later. It comes after the 2025, July 1(See update). Sweden and Finland meteor that created a sonic boom. Although it seems likely that this event could cause strandings, it is more likely due to the July 3rd meteor incident above in Scotland that has caused havoc.

These land-based events give me incredible data on what happens when meteor sonic booms occur. When a relatively small stone can create such a fuss over land, an airburst over water could create a lot of problems for cetaceans.
Update 20250811: At the moment, there have been several other meteor events sighted over Bass Strait on the night of the main event above. Therefore, a Marine Animal Disturbance Watch should be noted for the coastal regions.

2025, August 4. Canada, Nova Scotia, Bay of Fundy, Canning Aboiteau mud flats. A mass stranding of 13 Atlantic white-sided dolphins that were caught on tidal egress and rescued.

2025, August 5. Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast. Dead dolphins. Three over three days from August 3 to 5. On August 5, a dead dolphin was found at Primorsko. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine in the Black Sea there have been more and more cases of dolphins dying. Reports about this come not only from Russia and Ukraine but also from Turkey, Romania, and other countries. Hundreds of dead animals have been found in the Black Sea and along its coasts since the beginning of the year. In some regions, these figures have already exceeded those of the whole of last year.

2025, August 6. UK, Hunstanton, Snettisham beach. Sowerbys Beaked whale was found dead.
2025, August 6. Egypt, North Coast village. A male Bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) located dead, a species common in Egypt’s territorial waters. It measured approximately two meters in length and had decomposed noticeably.
2025, July 3. Scotland. Large Fireball. (Electrophonic Meteor) Had delayed and concurrent properties. Sound described as a huge boom heard over 230,000 square kilometres. Time: 00:49. Travelling East towards North Sea. Seen in England, Northern Ireland and Wales at a distance over 500 km. The incredible blast was spotted as far as the Outer Hebrides. Appin witness: “Then maybe 20 to 30 seconds later, an explosive bang.”
Considering the vast area, the sound was heard, a Marine Animal Disturbance Alert should be noted for waters in the UK, Ireland and coastal regions of mainland Europe.
Update: The meteor was seen above Taynuilt and Fort William, with one person claiming the “huge explosion” seemed to “wake up the whole town”. One person expressed their shock, saying: “I thought it was a bomb at first. I almost had a panic attack.” The boom was also “heard and felt” in Benderloch.
The bloodthirsty Tradition
A recent dolphin hunt on the Faroe Islands turned the waters of Leynar blood-red, marking the first Grindadrap of the summer. Shocking images captured a young child watching the slaughter unfold, highlighting the brutal nature of the centuries-old tradition. The event coincided with a visit from Danish King Frederik and Queen Mary, further drawing attention to the controversy.
Animal welfare campaigners have condemned the hunt, arguing that despite efforts to promote the islands as a tourist destination, the gruesome images overshadow its natural beauty. Critics have also raised concerns about pilot whale meat, warning that it contains harmful toxins and is no longer nutritionally necessary.
The UK's trade agreement with the Faroe Islands has been scrutinised, with activists urging the British government to suspend imports of Faroese seafood until the hunts end. Campaigners argue that global demand for Faroese fish financially supports the practice, reinforcing the need for international pressure to stop it. While the hunt is deeply rooted in tradition, many believe customs should evolve in favour of humane and sustainable alternatives.

Also, the Temp Rise/Meteor/Alge Bloom event in California has ended. This has been the third event after the one in Florida and Australia. Looking back at Australian records, this rise in temperature, along with meteor activity, that creates algal proliferation, is rather common. Meteor activity does give rise to plankton activity in the Southern Ocean, so it is understandable that, given the right conditions, this would spin up the process elsewhere.

Necropsy done. The carcass of the whale was in an advanced state of decomposition, which officials said indicated it had been dead for some time.
2025, April 4. USA, California, San Francisco, Fort Point Rock Beach. A third dead Gray whale that the remains were in an inaccessible location and caught in rocks offshore. The age and sex of the whale is unknown. There continues to be a significant number of gray whale sightings in San Francisco Bay as this species continues its northern migration to its Arctic feeding grounds.

2025, March 27. Pacific Ocean, 920km WSW of Manzanillo, Colima, Mexico. Large Airburst. Coordinates: (14.3N, 111.5W). e = 104.5, -e = 2.4 or 2,400,000 kg/TNT. Altitude: 38.1km. Vel: 21.3km/s. Marine Animal Disturbance Alert. This comes after the December 20 airburst at the same latitude, 1443 km to the east. Two very significant events. Due to this event, cetaceans such as Humpback and Risso's dolphins could be vulnerable. Gray, for this event, is not as much due to its location. This brings the 2024-2025 airburst ratio to 3:13. A comet not seen in 160,000 years is entering the inner solar system, so it will be interesting to see what it brings with it. The MAD'S for Brazil and the central Indian Ocean are still in effect to this date.

2025, March 13. Timor-Leste, Liquica. Large dead cachalot (sperm whale). Was seen in a distressed state before floating motionless.
2025, March 13. South Korea, Socheongdo Island in Ongjin-gun, Incheon. A large minke whale was found dead in a net in the northern sea of the West Sea. The cetacean was 7.5-meter-long 4.1 meters wide and weighed about 3 tons. The whale was located 13 kilometres south of the island where North Korea conducts illegal fishing including harpooning of cetaceans.
2025, March 14. Vietnam, Thach Hai commune, in the central city of Ha Tinh. A 100-kg, 1.5-meter-long, pygmy sperm whale was discovered a couple of hours ago. Whale worship is a long-standing tradition among Vietnamese fishermen, who believe the creatures' spirits offer protection at sea. It is customary for them to rescue stranded whales whenever possible and to hold burial and worship ceremonies for those that perish, often at whale temples.

2025, February 22. Philippines, Davao City, Ana Wharf. Dead Cuvier’s beaked whale was found floating near Pier 1. Estimated to weigh around 700 kilograms, measuring 17.3 feet in length and 8.4 feet in width. Authorities are still determining the cause of death.
2025, February 22. China, Hac Sa Beach. A sub-adult male porpoise measuring 1.48 meters. The carcass was already decomposing.
2025, February 22. China, Huangshan Mountain, 65 km west of coastal city of Wenzhou. Meteor Airburst. Coordinates: (28.1N, 120E). e = 5.5, -e = 0.18 or 180,000 km/TNT. Altitude: 56.7km. Velocity 15 km/sec. Important note: This is the 8th airburst this year compared to one this time last year. This is a major uptick in atmospheric activity, the most recorded in over 50 years.
