Why Strandings Occur Days, Weeks, or Months Later after meteor events

A common misconception is that an environmental acoustic event must cause an immediate, on-the-spot stranding. Physical pathologies often tell a different temporal story:

  • Progressive Labyrinthitis & Infection (Weeks to Months): Mechanical damage to the delicate inner ear structures often leads to localized inflammation, fluid accumulation, or secondary bacterial infection. As the internal damage slowly degrades the labyrinth over weeks, the whale's ability to maintain offshore orientation progressively collapses.

  • Gradual Pelagic Drift & Isolation (Days to Weeks): A cetacean with compromised biosonar and spatial disorientation may not strand immediately in deep water. Instead, it begins to drift off its normal migration corridor, struggles to forage effectively, becomes debilitated, and slowly navigates into shallow, treacherous coastal shelf traps days or weeks after the initial acoustic event.

  • Geomagnetic Baseline Recovery: If the high-altitude ionospheric perturbation and VLF shock scramble the local magnetic field cues, a pod already relying on a damaged vestibular system has no secondary orientation backup to correct its course as it navigates near shore.

Higher acoustic illumination trialed in Australia to reduce whale entanglements

Queensland has begun a five-week trial of new high-frequency acoustic alarms (“pingers”) on shark nets off Noosa Heads. The goal is to reduce whale entanglements, especially during the busy humpback migration along Australia’s east coast. Researchers from the University of Queensland are monitoring whale behaviour around the nets daily. Conservation groups remain skeptical, arguing that shark nets themselves are the core problem. The state government says the trial is part of its commitment to beach safety and modernising shark control technology. For the first time in 15 years, Queensland’s shark-net pingers are using new, higher-frequency signals. About 50,000 humpback whales migrate past the east coast each year; roughly 0.02% interact with shark nets. The alarms are designed to “acoustically illuminate” nets so whales detect and avoid them. The trial is a collaboration between the University of Queensland, the Queensland Government and Future Oceans (the alarm supplier). Researchers believe whales can hear these frequencies and may respond by moving away from the gear. Future Oceans says ongoing research may eventually allow scientists to decode whale communication, enabling even more targeted deterrent signals. UQ researchers are stationed at Noosa Heads 10 hours a day, observing: Whale movements, any interactions with shark nets and behavioural changes linked to the new alarms.

Meteor Airburst over South Atlantic Ocean

2026, September 10. South Atlantic Ocean, approximately 1600km ENE of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, or 190 km NNE of Trindade Island. Airburst. Time: 05:22:22. Coordinates: (19.3S, 28.1W). Altitude: 33.6km. Velocity Components: vx = -14.6; vy = 6.4; vz = 10.9. Roughly 19.31 km/s. This is 36 degrees from the horizontal, and 55.64 degrees from the vertical. Energy: e = 11.1e10; -e = 0.33 or 330,000 kg/TNT. This is the twenteeth airburst recorded by NASA this year. Ratio 2025:2026 = 28:20.

Predicted Entry of Meteoroid over Indian Ocean

2026, September 6. Indian Ocean. Pre Impact of a small celestial meteoroid discovery. Name of the object, CERNQ52. Its size is about 80 cm, 0.6 – 1.2 meters in diameter range. The object will enter Earth's atmosphere today at 18:35 (16:35 UT) over the Indian Ocean. This is the thirteenth case of a celestial body discovery before its collision with Earth. Predicted Entry Time: ~16:35 UTC (September 6). Location is roughly 1100km WNW of Broome, Australia and 1000 km ESE of Christmas Island. Melbourne Local Entry Time: ~2:35 AM AEST (overnight, Monday, September 7).

There has been an uptick in cetacean strandings in Papua New Guinea concerning Black Dolphins and a Beaked whale. This could be the result of submarine volcano activity in the Sea of Bismark. The above meteoroid is the second object in the "region" after the May event over the Arafura Sea. Then, in August, we had the Northern Territory, Gulf of Carpentaria, Groote Eylandt, pygmy blue whale stranding.

Overall Note: It's been quiet. Yes, there have been cetacean strandings and meteor activity globally, with pockets of linked events; however, overall, compared to other years, the slow trend continues. It will end sometime, as it does, but the flip side to this is a peaceful environment. There are unmonitored regions that continue to be blind spots for obtaining information, but usually they deliver some small signs. There was comet activity in the inner solar system that delivered some debris over the last year, so it's a wait-and-see scenario for how things unfold as the year goes on and the Earth's orbital path moves into further "trouble". Usually when I comment about it being "quiet" all hell breaks loose. It's important to say cetaceans are still dying from ship strikes, bycatch, entanglements, hunting and other manmade situations. I can only deliver what I'm seeing when mass whale strandings and clusters occur.

Long duration fireball over New Zealand

2026, August 30. New Zealand, North Island. Large fireball. (Sunday) Time: 7:43pm. Colour: green. Direction: passing West to East. At the moment, the flight time is 13+ seconds, and the preliminary trajectory has it over Bay of Plenty. There have been no AMS sound reports so far. Will update further as it was heading towards the ocean.

Focus on Science vs. Social Media Outrage. In Support of Real Conservation: Standing Up for the German Oceanographic Museum, WDC, and Marine Rescuers

The tragedy of Timmy the humpback whale brought out the best in dedicated professionals—from the German Oceanographic Museum (Deutsches Meeresmuseum) and WDC Germany to hands-on responders like Sea Shepherd Germany, the DLRG, and the Coast Guard. Yet despite weeks of exhausting, scientifically grounded efforts to minimize the animal's suffering, these organizations have faced an unprecedented wave of public hostility, online harassment, and death threats.

Marine mammal strandings are among the most emotionally charged, high-stakes situations in wildlife conservation. When a massive, distressed animal finds itself trapped in shallow, unfamiliar waters, the public's immediate instinct—driven by pure empathy—is to demand rescue at any cost. But compassion stripped of scientific reality often leads to prolonged suffering, and in the case of "Timmy" the humpback whale, it has sparked an outrageous campaign of abuse, hostility, and death threats against the very experts who prioritized the animal's welfare. When the young humpback whale nicknamed Timmy repeatedly stranded along Germany’s Baltic coast, marine scientists and cetacean specialists at the German Oceanographic Museum evaluated the situation through the lens of biology, veterinary medicine, and established stranding protocols. Humpback whales do not belong in the low-salinity environment of the Baltic Sea, where extended stays severely degrade their skin, health, and navigational abilities. Refloating or towing a severely compromised 12-ton humpback is an extreme, high-stress procedure that causes severe internal trauma and immense pain. When specialists advised allowing Timmy to die in peace rather than forcing invasive interventions, it was not out of indifference—it was a compassionate, evidence-based stance meant to prevent unnecessary agony. Despite explicit warnings from marine biologists and the International Whaling Commission, political authorization allowed a private group to transport the whale on a barge to the North Sea. The tragic result surprised no one in the scientific community: Timmy's body was later found washed ashore off the Danish island of Anholt. What followed, however, was a toxic wave of online outrage. Fueled by influencers and online commentators questioning expert motives without understanding cetacean physiology, scientists and museum staff became targets of relentless harassment. They have endured hate mail, threatening calls, promises of physical violence, and calls to burn the museum to the ground. No researcher, veterinarian, or museum worker should ever face terror and death threats for speaking difficult truths grounded in science. The team at the German Oceanographic Museum was placed in an impossible position, standing firm on animal welfare guidelines while facing an unprecedented wave of populist pressure. Attacking scientists when nature takes a devastating course does nothing to protect ocean life. If we truly care about marine mammals and preventing future stranding tragedies, we must trust, support, and defend the experts who spend their lives studying them—rather than vilifying them when biological facts collide with internet outrage. It is time to put an end to the harassment, listen to the evidence, and give the German Oceanographic Museum the standing and respect they deserve.

The Forgotten Giants: Iceland’s Unrivaled 19th-Century Mass Strandings

Over 200 years ago, Iceland was the site of two of the most significant cetacean mass strandings in documented history. These two strandings would result in the deaths of 3000 long finned black dolphins (pilot whales). Uniquely, both events occurred within just four years of one another in the exact same region. One of these stands as the largest single mass stranding in recorded history worldwide—while the other rivalled the famous 1918 stranding of 1,000 pilot whales in New Zealand’s Chatham Islands. (See note below concerning the New Zealand stranding).

1809: Akranes, Faxaflói Bay

In 1809, an estimated 1,000 long-finned pilot whales (Globicephala melas) stranded along the shallow, low-sloping mudflats near Akranes in southwestern Iceland. In Icelandic cetacean literature, this is widely cited as the earliest formally documented major pilot whale mass stranding in the nation’s historical records. The gently sloping bathymetry of Faxaflói Bay is thought to have disrupted the whales’ echolocation, a factor that continues to cause strandings in the region today.

1813: Snæfellsnes Peninsula, Faxaflói Bay

Just four years later, a second mass stranding occurred along the Snæfellsnes peninsula, involving approximately 2,000 long-finned pilot whales. To this day, the 1813 Snæfellsnes incident remains the single largest mass stranding of cetaceans ever recorded anywhere in the world.

A Lifeline for Local Communities

In 19th-century Iceland, these tragic events were viewed through a very different lens. Regional annals recorded the 1809 and 1813 incidents primarily as major resource windfalls—referred to in Icelandic as hvalreki (literally "whale drift," the origin of the modern Icelandic idiom for a windfall or stroke of good fortune). Coastal communities mobilized rapidly to harvest the meat and blubber, documenting the sheer magnitude of the herds (~1,000 and ~2,000 individuals) as a vital safeguard against hardship and winter famine.


Note on the New Zealand stranding: The "1,000 black dolphins in 1918" story originated from retrospective compilation of mid-20th-century marine mammal databases, rather than a verified contemporary 1918 newspaper report. The Primary Catalyst: Dr. Warren Brabyn (1991). The primary entry point for this event into modern global science was a major academic publication in 1991: Dr. Warren Brabyn’s An Atlas of Cetacean Strandings in New Zealand (published by the Department of Conservation). Brabyn attempted to catalog every known New Zealand stranding from 1840 to 1987. For early 20th-century events in isolated locations like the Chatham Islands, he relied on: Hand-written museum records (like those held at the Dominion Museum/Te Papa). Unpublished personal diaries and letters from early settlers and naturalists. Unverified local council/regional archives and oral tradition passed down by Chatham Islanders. Brabyn recorded the 1918 event based on these secondary notes. Because his atlas became the official foundation for the New Zealand Department of Conservation (DOC) Stranding Database, the 1918 entry was codified into law and official science. The Global "Citation Loop" Once an entry enters an official government database, it becomes a "truth anchor" for global academia: 1991: DOC publishes Brabyn’s atlas listing ~1,000 whales in 1918. 2000s: Global scientific bodies (e.g., the International Whaling Commission) and references like Te Ara (Encyclopedia of New Zealand) cite the DOC database. Present: Popular websites, media, and Wikipedia cite Te Ara or DOC, creating a closed loop of self-referencing authorities where no one goes back to check for the missing 1918 primary source. Was It a Real Event Misdated, or an Exaggeration? Historical marine biologists who have looked back at the Brabyn records suspect two main possibilities: Conflation with another year: In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, massive pilot whale strandings occurred frequently on Long Beach. An un-dated massive stranding recorded in a settler's journal may have simply been assigned the arbitrary year "1918" when cataloged decades later. A Visual Estimate of a Real Disaster: Mass strandings on Long Beach can span several kilometers. When islanders came across hundreds of decaying carcasses stretched across the bay, an offhand estimate of "must be a thousand of 'em" was likely written in a personal note or ledger, which eventually became the fixed historical figure "1,000". It was created by early 20th-century oral history and informal records being formalized into a government database in 1991, where it was transformed from a rough local estimate into an official historical record.

2026, August 6. New Zealand, South Island east coast, Canterbury. Fireball. Region Seen: Canterbury, Otago and Wellington. Time: around 06:45 UT, 18:45NZST. Travelling N over coast.  

2026, August 9. New Zealand, Cook Strait. Fireball. Time: 06:18UT, 18:18NZST. Seen in Wellington, Nelson and Manawatū-Whanganui Regions. This was the sixth fireball recorded in New Zealand since July 26th. Please see the post below involving the other four. 

2026, August 9. New Zealand, South Island, Cook Strait, south of Palliser Bay, near Waimeha Camping Village. A juvenile humpback whale washed ashore dead.

2026, August 9. New Zealand, Waiheke, near the Kennedy Point wharf. A Minke whale carcass washed ashore.

2026, August 11. New Zealand, NW South Island, Carters Beach, Westport on the West Coast, just over two kilometres down the beach, south of the township. A large pygmy blue whale, 21.7 metres long and is believed to weigh about 20 tonnes. In a moderate state of decomposition. The whale was first spotted floating in the surf on Monday, August 10, before washing fully ashore on Tuesday, August 11.

Mass stranding in Puerto Rico

2026, July 31. Puerto Rico, Humacao, Punta Santiago Beach. A mass stranding of 3 Black Dolphins (Pilot Whales) from a pod of 6. After hours of careful rescue work, Emergency crews from Puerto Rico's Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DRNA) refloated the cetaceans. All six were successfully returned to the ocean and were later confirmed to be several miles offshore, safe and swimming together. At first, the whales struggled to regain their strength, moving slowly as they made their way back into deeper water. Rescuers closely monitored the pod until the animals were able to swim away on their own.

Puerto Rico News

Second stranding on island: 2026, August 1. Puerto Rico, Puerto Angelino, Playa Combate, Cabo Rojo. A Blainville's Beaked/humpback whale calf (Mesoplodon densirostris), was rescued. This is the second whale stranding recorded on the island in the last two days. Members of the Boquerón Maritime Unit's Vigilance Corps, along with the Fisheries Laboratory of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DRNA), and agency personnel, participated in the operation. The transfer required the mobilization of a Federal Customs vessel, with the purpose of taking the calf to deep waters south of Cabo Rojo.

Sonic Boom created by fireball in New Zealand

On the 26th, a large fireball was witnessed offshore of Christchurch that was seen over a large region. I wasn't overly concerned; however, this evening a second large fireball has created an extensive shockwave throughout the atmosphere. A Marine Animal Disturbance Alert should be noted for the region until further information is obtained. As with many coastal meteors, they can be harder to read in terms of their effects on the marine environment.

Preliminary Data: 2026, July 28. New Zealand, Lower North Island/Cook Strait. Time: 22:26:10. Filmed from Toatoa, rural Ōpōtiki (Bay of Plenty). Seen from regions: Auckland, Bay of Plenty, Canterbury, Hawke's Bay, Manawatū-Whanganui, Marlborough, Taranaki, Tasman, Wellington, Taranaki, Opiki. Kapiti. Sonic Boom: Sound generated in concurrent and delayed forms from two extensive explosions when meteor fragmented. At Wairarapa, there were reports of animal disturbance, including livestock and domestic animals. It flew right over Manakau, and then, about 2mins later, a loud, low rumble disturbed all the birds. Multiple Reports: Sounded like an earthquake, but there was no tremor. Animals outside went crazy. Cows across the road were going nuts. Multiple booms echoing off the hills. Sounded like thunder. Explosion was crazy!! Huge explosion/ rumble after. Sound was loud and went on for a while. Popping sounds amid the rumblings as well. Heard at Masterton, Gladstone, Eketahuna, Ōtaki,

There will be numerous reports from this event. The trajectory is not fully understood yet. 

2026, July 26. New Zealand, South Island, East of Christchurch over Southern Ocean. Fireball. Time: 17:51NZST, 05:49UT. Duration: 5+ seconds. Travelling south. It appears that the object fell over the sea off the East coast of Canterbury/Christchurch about 70 km offshore. Seen at Ormondville in North Island and Dunedin in South Island over 800km apart. Regions: Canterbury, Manawatū-Whanganui, Otago, Wellington. Witness on commercial flight: “Was spotted by our flight crew on approach into CHC this evening and left an ionized trail behind it for 5 seconds or so. Due to its remote sea location, no sonic boom was reported.

Update 20260730: Another fireball over the coast travelling towards the Tasman Sea. 2026, July 29. New Zealand, North Island, Auckland. Time: 20:37NZST, 08:37 UT. Travelling east. Seen in Auckland, Bay of Plenty, Hawke's Bay, Manawatū-Whanganui, Northland, Taranaki, Waikato.

Meteor airburst over cachalot habitat

2026, July 21. North Atlantic Ocean, 240km NE from the coast of Guyana. Airburst. Coordinates: (9.4N, 57.4W). Time: 01.14UT. Altitude: 31.5km. Energy: e = 3.2e10. -e = 0.11 or 110,000 kg/TNT. It was seen from San Juan, Port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago, 470 km to the west. Notes: Central region of cachalot (sperm whale) habitat. As in previous posts, these events usually highlight increased overall activity in the given region. 


Sperm whales could very well be present at that location and time of year. Depth and Bathymetry (The "Drop-Off"): Coordinates: 9.4°N, 57.4°W (240 km NE of Guyana's coastline). Seabed Profile: This position sits directly over the Guiana Continental Slope / Deep Ocean Basin, where ocean depths rapidly drop into the 1,500 m to 3,500 m+ range. Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) are deep-diving pelagic foragers that almost exclusively frequent waters deeper than 1,000 meters along continental slopes and oceanic trenches where their primary prey (deep-sea squid) aggregate. July / Summer Seasonality: Social Units (Females & Calves): Unlike mature adult males that migrate to polar latitudes during the northern summer, female social pods, nursery groups, and young males remain in tropical and subtropical waters year-round (between ~40°N and 40°S). Guiana Basin Field Data: Marine surveys off the Guianas (Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana) confirm that sperm whales are among the most frequently sighted pelagic cetaceans along the outer continental slope during summer months (May through September).

Pod of dolphin's re-strand in Western Australia

2026, July 21. Western Australia, Princess Royal Harbour, Albany Waterfront Marina, Anzac Peace Park. A mass stranding of approximately 12 pantropical spotted dolphins. The pod stranded at Albany Waterfront Marina on Tuesday. Over the next 24 hours, 11 died. Initial Stranding (Tuesday). One dolphin died and was removed. The remaining 11 were refloated by members of the public and returned to deeper water. Second Stranding (Wednesday morning): 10 dolphins re-stranded overnight. Seven died on the beach. The remaining three were humanely euthanised following veterinary advice.

Update 20260723: I checked meteor data over multiple sites and haven't found anything other than normal background incidents.

Belugas mass strand in Huson Bay

2026, July 20. Canada, Hudson Bay, Manitoba, near Churchill. A mass stranding of 7 belugas whales. A pod of three females and four calves trapped in a shallow, isolated pool about 50 metres from tide line. Birds had already injured the whales. Gulls were pecking at the stranded belugas, causing minor injuries. Officers used bear bangers to scare the birds away and prevent further harm. Risk of polar bears: Blood from the injuries posed a serious risk of attracting polar bears. RCMP officers were called to help keep watch and keep people away. The whales were too large to move manually, so officers stayed with them for nearly two hours, splashing water on them every 20–30 minutes and keeping watch for predators. Successful return to the bay: As the tide returned, water reconnected with the pool, forming a stream. The belugas immediately swam toward the exit point and safely to open water.

Western Australia mass dolphin stranding

2026, July 21. Western Australia, Princess Royal Harbour, Albany Waterfront Marina, Anzac Peace Park. A mass stranding of approximately a dozen dolphins occurred in shallow mud flats. All but one were refloated after a response involving public intervention. 

Will update later if significant information becomes available when I check meteor detection sites. It's too early to suggest a reason why; it could be bird flu, a simple navigation error or something else

There was an unrelated large meteor event in northwestern Australia on the 17th.

Witness Location and Report: GPS co-ordinates exact; -23.1206183, 123.0419572, CSR WELL 22 - Historical landmark. DMS: 23°07'14.2"S 123°02'31.1"E. Georgia bore camp on canning stock route, few kms nearby. Sonic Boom heard approx 2mins later, heard rumble and distant boom. Colour: Blue, Light Blue. Direction: Travelling west. Time: 07:00 AWST. 23:00 UT Gibson Desert, NW Australia. Duration: ≈7.5s

Update at Cape Cod and Bali

2026, July 14. USA, Massachusetts, Cape Cod, across a 9-mile stretch from Brewster to Wellfleet. A mass stranding of 19 bottlenose dolphins, a day after what rescuers described as the largest known bottlenose dolphin stranding in Massachusetts to date. Four dolphins were initially located in the Herring River "Gut" in Wellfleet before responders from IFAW discovered more. All 19 dolphins had refloated by late morning as the tide rose.

Also: 2026. July 14. Indonesia, Bali, Jembrana Regency, Perancak Beach. A humpback whale with a length of more than seven meters was found stranded. Rescue attempts failed to save the cetacean, which subsequently died a few hours after being found. It comes 4 days after the meteor event in post below. 

Update: 20260715. 2026, July 15. USA, Massachusetts, Boston, Winthrop. Dead whale.

Update on NASA-Detected Meteor Airbursts The current ratio of detected airbursts for 2025 vs. 2026 stands at 22:15. So far this year, 7 have occurred in southern latitudes compared to 8 in the northern hemisphere. 2026 - Over Ocean vs. Over Land: 10 events compared to 5 events.

Second mass stranding at Cape Cod, third in region

2026, July 13. USA, Massachusetts, Cape Cod, specifically spanning the shallow flats between First Encounter Beach in Eastham and Ellis Landing/First Light Beach in Brewster. A mass stranding of approximately 34 bottlenose dolphins. Six died before a rescue team arrived, with the others refloated on the incoming tide. Similarities to the 2024 Event: On 2024, June 28. A mass stranding of approximately 146 Atlantic white-sided dolphins, considered a more strictly offshore, pelagic species. This event occurred exactly 20 days after the June 8 fireball that entered the atmosphere over Georges Bank east of Nantucket Island.


Also: 2026, July 11. Indonesia, Java, Bekasi. Fireball. Time: 21:22:35 WIB. Trajectory initiated over the Java Sea, crossing southeast over parts of Java Island (including Bekasi, Majalengka, Nagreg, Tasikmalaya, and Yogyakarta). The meteor continued to move southeast until it lost its speed, possibly ending in the Indian Ocean, south of East Java or Bali. Sonic Boom: The eastern part of West Java, some residents of Cirebon and Kuningan reported hearing a booming sound shortly after the meteor passed. The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) estimate the trajectory concluded with an airburst deceleration or impact over the Indian Ocean, south of East Java or Bali.

Mass dolphin stranding at Cape Cod

2026, July 6. USA, Massachusetts, Cape Cod, Loagy Bay. A mass stranding of 7 common dolphins. All were relocated and refloated. That is exactly 37 days after the May 30th meteor airburst.

Preliminary Report and will update: Field Timeline for the July 6, 2026 Incident:

8:00 AM: The pod of seven common dolphins (Delphinus delphis) is reported stranded on the shallow mudflats of Loagy Bay as the morning tide receded aggressively.

Morning Rescue: IFAW's field crew executes a rapid extraction, hauling the dolphins out of the mud into mobile rescue units to prevent their internal organs from being crushed under their own weight.

1:15 PM: After receiving on-site veterinary assessments and hydration fluids in the transport vehicles, the entire cohesive pod is driven to Herring Cove in Provincetown, and successfully refloated together into deep water.


Also, an update on North Atlantic Fireball: This is important as it could show developments that increase the possibility of further cetacean strandings along the eastern seaboard. The July 3rd fireball update: The American Meteor Society (AMS) logged these as Events 4991-2026 and 4993-2026. These two records absolutely describe the exact same fireball event. Occurring right around 01:18 to 01:20 UT on July 3rd (which is 9:18–9:20 PM EDT on the evening of July 2nd). It was witnessed from Fort Lauderdale and the Bahamas to Hatteras in North Carolina, over 1000 km apart. It was travelling WSW. It created a sonic boom heard 15 seconds after the incident, a low rumbling sound. The duration reports have a time frame of between 7 and 20 seconds.

Update: The 30th of May meteor Airburst and Acoustic Monitoring of Cetaceans

Between January 1st and June 15th, the North Atlantic acoustic monitors picked up 15068 definite whale detections that included Right, Fin, Blue, Sei and Humpback. On the 30th of May the Cape Cod meteor airburst event occurred. On this day, and the next, only 4 data points were detected. The 31st of June was the lowest data point for the year to date.

Also: 2026, June 14. USA, Tennessee and Missouri. Seen in 13 other states: AL, AR, GA, IA, IL, IN, KY, KS, MS, MN, OK, SC and TX. Long Duration Fireball. Time: 22:26. Travelling NNW. Shallow angle entry skipping numerous times over the lower atmosphere and fragmenting. Early reports indicate the object created concurrent and delayed sound, a whipping and rumbling. There have also been two large fireballs in Europe, both creating sound, one in Italy and the other in France.

June update, Fireballs, Strandings and Asteroid Flyby

Fireballs reported in Florida, Newport in California, Hawaii, UK and Bay of Biscay. Cetaceans ashore in the Shetlands, UK (Sowerby’s beaked whale), California, Iceland, Alaska (pregnant Cuvier's beaked whale), Oregon, Honolulu (Blainville’s beaked whale), Canada, Vietnam, and Japan.

Asteroid: (2026 LS1). Diameter: 14 m - 32 m. Flyby: 2026, Jun 13. Close Approach Time: 06:48 ± < 00:01. Velocity (VRE): 8.34km/s. Drop Line: 2 hours.
