Triple Cetacean deaths in Canary Islands and Northern Ireland

2025, May 25. Northern Ireland, Portstewart Strand. Dead juvenile Minke whale on the beach.

2025, May 25. Philippines, Mayo Bay, Davao Oriental. A dead pygmy or dwarf sperm whale.

2025, May 25. Philippines, Balayan, Batangas. Dead Whale Shark.

2025, May 25. Canary Islands, Fañabé Beach in Costa Adeje. The body of a baby short-finned pilot whale was recovered. This is the third dead cetacean found in Canary Island waters this week.

2025, May 25. Alaska, north of Gambell. Dead bowhead whale. No sign of wounds to indicate what killed it. In a state of moderate decomposition.

2025, May 25. USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Berkeley Pier. Dead Grey whale.

2025, May 6. Nigeria, Andoni. A dead whale was located at sea. Pulled to shore by locals for human consumption. Government officials warn people not to do this, however, they do it anyway.

Cetacean Deaths and Two Fireballs Updated 20250524

2025, May 19. South Africa, Wild Side of Robberg Nature Reserve. A juvenile humpback whale, approximately 7 meters in length, stranded in the surf. It was determined by authorities that euthanasia was the only option.

2025, May 20. UK, Northumberland, Newbiggin. Dead dolphin.

2025, May 22. Northern Ireland, Holywood’s Seapark Beach in Co Down. Dead dolphin. Second stranding in NI in a week. The following event happened 12 days prior. 2025, May 10. Irish Sea. Fireball. Time: 22:26BST, 21:18 UT. Travelling NNW near the west coast of Northern Ireland.

2025, May 20. Pacific, USA, California. Fireball Time: 23:34PDT or May 21st 2025 around 06:36 UT. Traveling NE. Entered the atmosphere approximately 100km NW of San Francisco Bay.

2025, May 21. USA, California, off Mare Island in Vallejo. Adult female gray whale. This is at least the seventh dead whale that has washed up along a Bay Area beach this year.

2025, May 22. Canary Islands, Tenerife, shore near Fasnia, a coastal area on the east coast of the island. A Cachalot (Sperm whale) washed ashore dead.  

2025, May 22. Canary Islands. A second dead cachalot was located offshore. This individual was a juvenile. 

2025, May 22. Falkland Islands. Last two weeks. A skeleton identified as a porpoise species (probably spectacled porpoise) found at Cape Pembroke. A dead southern right whale was found at Saunders Island last week.

Cetacean strandings since March 1

2025, March 1. New Zealand, east coast. Pygmy sperm whale stranded and refloated; doubts it will survive.

2025, March 3. Scotland, Isle of Raasay. A cachalot (sperm whale) was found dead on shore. The cetacean was spotted entangled in fishing gear off Skye on March 1st and disentangled by rescuers before becoming stranded on a shore nearby.

2025, March 4. USA, New Jersey, Monmouth Beach, near Meadow Avenue. A stranded injured dolphin was rescued from a nearly dry creek bed and was euthanized.

2025, March 4. Ghana, Golf of Guinea, Volta Region, Kedzi. A short-finned pilot whale washed ashore.

2025, March 6. USA, Washington State, Gray's Harbor, Damon Point. Dead dolphin.  

2025, March 6. Canary Islands, coast of Grandes Playas de Corralejo in Fuerteventura. A nearly five-metre-long Cuvier’s beaked whale was discovered stranded. This is the third one recorded in the Canary Islands so far this year. The two previous strandings were earlier in the year, involving a striped dolphin and a common dolphin.

2025, March 6. Mexico, Punta Banda, in front of Villarino. Dead dolphin on beach.

2025, March 6. UK, Salcott, Old Hall Marshes. A 4 to 5 feet long common dolphin washed ashore dead in advanced state of decomposition.

2025, March 6. France, Saint Hilaire-de-Riez in Vendée. A female 8m long humpback dead. The whale was already in an advanced state of decomposition. Assumed death due to the fishing tackle wrapped around her tail.

2025, March 6. New Zealand, east coast South Island. A very small Hector’s dolphin calf was found around 2km off Lyttelton harbour mouth killed by boat propeller strike.

2025, March 7. New Zealand, North Island, east coast, Ngunguru River. Remains of dead whale. Species unknown.

2025, March 7. Scotland, Durness, on the north coast. A mass stranding of 4 striped dolphins. One was dead on discovery the other was euthanised. Two were refloated in a fragile state.

2025, March 7. Thailand, Bangkok, Bang Pu. A fully grown female Bryde’s whale also known as Eden’s, washed ashore dead. It was about eight to nine metres long and weighed about eight tons. It had been dead for at least three days. Its body and head had cut wounds. The cause of its death was assumed to be the impact of being struck by a ship during feeding time.

2025, March 8. USA, Massachusetts, Westport. Dead dolphin.  

2002 Canary Islands and the nearly 9 million kilo of TNT airburst

2002, March 1. North Atlantic. Airburst. Coordinates: (29.2, -66.8). Time: 03:53. e = 29.2, -e = 0.13 or 13,000 kg/TNT.

2002, June 2. Mediterranean Sea: 230 km N-NE of Benghazi, Libya; Airburst, which was named (2002 Eastern Mediterranean event). Coordinates: 34°N 21°E. E = 450, -e = 8.8 or 8,800,000 kg/TNT.

2002, July. USA, Cape Cod. 55 Black Dolphins were stranded, and 46 returned to sea.

2002, September 24. Canary Islands. 14 beaked whales (Blamed on mid-frequency Military sonar testing). Pushed stranding. Very similar to what happened in Madagascar in 2008. You have an airburst injury then an outside event is blamed.
