Two Fireballs Over Gulf of Cádiz and Alboran Sea

2026, September 19 and 20. Two Fireballs Over Portugal, Spain (Cádiz) and Morocco. Two fireballs recorded on consecutive days. Detected by SMART project cameras. Both were detected by multiple observatories across Spain and North Africa. First Fireball on 9 September, 04:14. Origin: Asteroidal. Location: Over the Gulf of Cádiz. A Southern Taurid fireball ending in a brilliant white-green flare. The event was recorded by multiple stations in Spain and was identified as SPMN190926D by the Spanish Meteor Network. The Southern Taurid stream is linked to Comet Encke and is known for producing bright fireballs from September into autumn. Speed: ~97,000 km/h. Altitude path: Started at 98 km, ended at 42 km. Visibility: Recorded by stations in Calar Alto, Huelva, La Hita (Toledo), Sierra Nevada, La Sagra (Granada), Seville, and Mazagón. The fireball passed over the coast of Faro, Portugal, in Aquarius as seen from Spain. It reached a magnitude of about −10 and was visible across Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura and southern Portugal. Second Fireball — 20 September, 8:47 p.m. Alboran Sea. Origin: Cometary. Location: Off the coast of Al Hoceima, Morocco over Mediterranean. Speed: ~65,000 km/h. Altitude path: From 91 km down to 31 km. Visibility: Particularly striking because it occurred during sunset, making it visible despite natural light. Recorded by: Calar Alto, La Sagra, Olocau (Valencia), and Mazagón.
